How to make your website effective

“If you are not on the Internet, you don’t exist”. This -real- phrase makes companies (regardless of their size) look for a web designer every day. However, many still don´t have a clear idea of why or what for. The result is a standard website, with irrelevant information, that does not generate any benefit for your company.

And of course, that also costs you a lot of money. But you did it because you had to do it.

If this story sounds all too familiar let me tell you a few truths about web design…and then I’ll give you 5 tips to improve the effectiveness of your site.

Truth #1

Yes, if you’re not on the Internet, you don’t exist. There are very few cases of companies that continue to emerge without having a web presence. Or don’t you also search the Internet…whatever it is you’re looking for?

Truth #2

“Being on the Internet” no longer necessarily means having a website. In this sense, social networks have been able to reduce the gap that used to exist between SMEs and entrepreneurs and large companies that could afford professional web development. Not to mention those free platforms like WIX.

Truth #3

Your free website and your Facebook page don’t look so good to Google… And you want to be one of those who appears on the first page of Google search, or am I wrong? For this you don’t need to pay for advertising but you will need to follow these tips.

5 TIPS FOR A BETTER WEB DESIGN

1. Hire a professional web designer

Did you know that 38% of people say they abandon a website simply because it is “ugly”? A web designer will not only make your site look professional, which shows the professionalism of your company. 2. Be easy to contact

Your “Contact Us” button should not only be always visible. But once the user has clicked on it, he should see at least two different ways to contact you. If the only way to contact you is via email then provide your email address and a contact form. Even if they both arrive in the same box there are those who prefer to write you an email and those who prefer to quickly fill out a form and forget about it. Therefore, give them a choice.

3. Choose one goal and one goal only

Do you want to sell products? You need good photos, detailed information, online payment facilities, etc. Do you want to make your services known? Tell your audience how you work. Do you want to simply make yourself known? Show how you are different from your competitors.

How to show this information will be your web designer’s task but it is you who must define the objective.

Choosing a single objective does not mean that you should not include the rest of the information (for example an “About us” page if you have an online store). But it is important to prioritize the information so that those who visit your website can effectively convert and perform the action you were hoping for. Meaning, buy, contact you, schedule a visit, etc.

4. Include a blog or news section

This may require a lot of work and dedication on your part. But publishing news or articles in your blog makes your website alive. It is no longer something that the web designer made, uploaded and there it stays, but it is a platform that is constantly updated and generating content: something that search engines (like Google) love.

This is one of the ways you can “get Google to like you” and move up in the search engine results.

5. Validate your business

As we said before, anyone can be online nowadays. So it is important to demonstrate the veracity of your business and the quality of your service or product.

Include in your web design the testimonials of your customers. If you don’t have them you can show the logos of who you have worked with or photos of previous projects and services rendered.

You can also seek certification in a particular field and share the seal with your audience. Are you a B-Company? Do you sell organic products? Maybe you belong to the [your industry] association in [your country].

It is these -not so- small details that will help your website to be a contribution to your business and not an obligation.
